The Sunday spins are well and truly back up and running
The Sunday spins are well and truly back up and running, a few weeks in now and the numbers are staying up and the groups are getting stronger. There was some serious lockdown training mileage put in this winter with some lads showing a huge improvement over last year, some remaining “steady” and there’s always one that’s not done as much and it’s showing, we won’t name any names 🙂
This week was a bank holiday so we had two Sunday spins to look forward too, on Sunday morning we tried something different to get the late risers to come with us, we started at HQ @Chaindrivencycles at 8am and done a loop of Strandhill before picking up the sleepy heads in Ballisodare and heading to Tubbercurry via, Collooney, Ballymote & a Right turn in Gurteen To the tea stop. It was 65kms and the two groups averaged a respectable 30kms and 29kms P/Hr into the slight head wind.
After the stop the groups broke and headed for Cloonacool in opposite directions, group 1 headed to Dan’s pub and Garda Currid took the bull by the horns and pulled and pushed the group into Sligo via Coolaney for an average of 31kms/hr + over the 113km course, group 2 kept the pace up too opting for the shorter route to Cloonacool and stayed away from the bunch with a respectable 29.5 average.
Monday was a day for licking the wounds but again we went for the tailwind home as a good group of 7 headed for Gurteen up the hungry rock. Across to Temple house & onto Bunnanaden, the scenic route to Gurteen was taken & there was mixed reactions to the hills but we all got over it including a teary eyed Stephen Mullane who vowed to let Frenchie pick the route for next week 🙂 . With the headwind stronger than anticipated it was sure to be a fast one after the coffee & it didn’t disappoint, the group worked well together and tore in the road coming home with a respectable 30.5 average. 200kms clocked up in the two days was enough and not one group member headed left for Strandhill and the higher mileage, all eyes now on week 7 of Roadies night- the penultimate one before the Sligo League kicks off , if you’re around it’s 6:25 at Carraroe school on Wednesday evening.
As always Keep pedalin & stay safe, enjoy the good weather and remember new members are welcome weekly. 🚴🏻♂️🚴🏻♂️👊🏻
